ABSOLUTE KIMBERLEY EXPERIENCE
Broome to Wyndham

14 nights
Guests are collected at approximately 3.00pm from either their accommodation venue or a location organised if they wish to wander in the Broome shopping precinct prior to departure. Once on board, you will have the opportunity to meet the other guests and crew, view your accommodation and taken through our safety brief. Whilst the skipper takes leave of Broome, enjoy the company of new friends with a sundowner drink and trays of hors d’oeuvres. Guests can relax with a fantastic view of the famous cable beach as the sun sets into the Indian Ocean. Diversity II makes its first steam overnight to our first stop at Yampi Sound.
Awaken to freshly made coffee and a prepared cooked breakfast before boarding one of our tenders to experience your first taste of the magnificent Kimberley coast –stretch your legs with a walk and swim on Silicone Beach. Enjoy the squeaky clean sand and clear salt water. Today you will have the opportunity for two swims – one salt and the other fresh at a waterfall called Croc Creek. From here it is a short steam to the oyster collecting area where we can all pick black lip oysters of the rocks to enjoy with our evening meal. Enjoy a drink and watch the stars as our skipper steams the short distance to Talbot Bay where we anchor overnight.
Talbot Bay is a fun area with beautiful sleepy sharks waiting for a free feed and a friendly rub on their backs, quiet back waters where you can hear birds singing, to the wild exhilarating Horizontal Falls. A day not to be missed! If you have your heart set on fishing, this could be your first chance to wet a line. After a full day’s adventure relax and enjoy the freshly prepared evening meal then chill out on one of our decks. As you lull off to sleep Diversity II steams for Doubtful Bay for the next’s day adventure.
Doubtful Bay gives us many options offering everything from walking trails, rainforests, natural fresh swimming pools, waterfalls, fishing, mud crabbing and ancient art galleries. Our 3 tenders allow us to give you choices on today’s adventure as it is a photographer’s paradise. We stay on the anchor overnight.
With an early steam out of Doubtful Bay, we head out a short distance to sea towards one of the Kimberley’s jewels – Montgomery Reef. Named after the surgeon on Phillip Park King’s vessel, Mermaid, Diversity II will drop anchor in a channel that has been carved out by the tidal water over millions of years. Watch in awe as the reef appears to ‘rise’ out of the water – a truly incredible sight. Keep your eyes open for the myriad of marine life from turtles to the shy dugong. Once you have had your fill, we will steam north towards Camden Harbour passing Kuri Bay, Australia’s first pearl farm as we will overnight in the still waters of Breaknock Harbour.
Camden Harbour is also known as Heartbreak Harbour, as history recounts the tales of early settlers perishing in the harsh environment, the grave site of Mary Pascoe and the ruins of buildings in the area tells the harsh and heartbreaking story of people not prepared or able to adapt in order to survive in a country as unforgiving as ours. From Camden Harbour we will travel through Treachery Pass where we will stop for a brief interlude and catch a fish for our evening meal, before moving into the Prince Regent River and anchor for the night.
Depending on the tides, today will either be spent exploring the vast Prince Regent or taking you for a walk to yet another of the Kimberley’s well kept secrets. Take the time to enjoy the beauty of this natural phenomenon, explore, take photos, swim or freshen up with a cool drink. Back on board Diversity II, enjoy a sumptuous feast before heading into the Kings Cascade for a shower on the fore deck. Then it’s your choice between a relaxing day on board, climbing to enjoy the freedom of taking a dip in the scenic surround of a series of freshwater pools or having the crew take you in one of the tenders for a spot of fishing. We will steam out on the outgoing tide later that evening and head for Careening Bay to drop anchor for the night.
Wake up to the aroma of breakfast cooking as Diversity II swings on her anchor. Another day of excursions awaits you with the inclusion of the famous boab tree and its area. This place is full of history and our guide will happily tell the tale of the repairs done to the Mermaid vessel in 1820. One not to be missed! Along the way we will be making several stops in order to take a closer look at many sites of interest and do the odd spot of fishing. Relax with a late afternoon drink and evening meal amid the backdrop of a stunning Kimberley sunset, and while Diversity II makes her way to Hunter River to anchor for the night.
Hunter River gives you the chance to enjoy the Kimberley sights from the air. We can arrange for you to enjoy a helicopter flight over this rugged terrain from Naturaliste Island including the iconic Mitchell Falls. This is not included in the cruise price so Heliworks has credit card facilities onboard and payment will be taken prior to departure. For those who choose to stay on board will be whisked away by a couple of our guides to visit the river and galleries; and even have a chance to flick a lure for the elusive barramundi. Once all back on board, Diversity II will steam for Biggie Island to view some very interesting rock art and then an overnight steam into the Mitchell River where we will drop anchor.
After a great night sleep it’s another full day where the competition increases for that big barra or two before the tide gets too high. This means its time for a trip to the water falls for a picnic lunch and a refreshing swim, which also includes a bit of walking to stretch those legs of yours. Diversity II will join the outgoing tide and head to Vansittart Bay so relax, read, or soak up the ever-changing landscape as we steam further north.
Vansittart Bay offers a different style of ancient art now known as the Gwion Gwion (also known as Bradshaw Art), very interesting and intriguing art with lots of theories out there as to its origin and age. Something for you to consider as we take the track to the WWII DC3 plane that didn’t quite make the airfield. After an eventful day, relax and enjoy the once again stunning Kimberley star studded night sky.
Welcome to Cape Londonerry and the corner that sees us making our way down the coast to King George River. Today with the tide permitting we will stop at some of the least known locations to explore galleries and favourite fishng spots as we mosey our way down King George River. Keep that camera handy all day as the high gorges rise up and the water cascades down. Truly one of the Kimberley’s biggest iconic locations – the twin falls. Over 300 foot of water coming down to meet the river – absolutely awesome after a big wet season. If you are keen, our guides will take you on the trail climb to the top for the perfect photo opportunity. The end of the day sees us steam out and onto the Berkeley River.
Another jewel of the Kimberley with waterfalls, art galleries, natural swimming pools and; today is your last chance to bag one of those big barras. Finally relax and take in what you have experienced over the last 14 days before we head overnight into the town of Wyndham. The local transfer bus will be waiting to collect you after breakfast and a farewell to the crew at approx 9am so you can book into your accommodation in Kununurra or meet flights booked for later that day.
